Deceased Pope John Paul II was beatified (受賜福), not beautified（美化）
Beautify is to make prettier; make more attractive by adding ornament or color. (The noun is beautification).
Beatify is to proclaim one who has died to be among the blessed in heaven. The noun is beatification. 【天主教教宗為前教宗約翰保祿二世行宣福禮〔宣佈死者已升天堂的儀式〕】
I confused beatification with beautification in a column I wrote recently. I want to clarify that the two words are different.
